Philippians 2:5-8 NIV 2011
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used on his own advantage; rather he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant…he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!
Paul called the church at Philippi to be unified in Christ. One commentator wrote, “Christians are to have his attitude of self-sacrificing humility and love for others.” Jesus came as the incarnation of Christmas. John 1:1, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Jesus was born sinless and yet He died on the cross for sinners. Mark 10:45, “For even the Son of Man…gave his life as a ransom for many.” Believers are called to follow Jesus’ self-sacrificing model.
The pastor this morning made this statement, “We need to show care and compassion at this time of the year.” I followed that by writing a note; my attitude needs to be the same as Jesus Christ’s. With the Christmas season upon us, by focusing on the reason for this season, I can see there are times I might need to change my thought process. As a sinner, I’m woefully unworthy of all that He’s given me. I’m called daily to follow Jesus’ self-sacrificing by being obedient and humble.
Why does Jesus call us?
Thankful He’s our model,
