1 John 5:3b-5 NIV 2011

And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God over comes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

John’s letter to the faithful in Asia Minor reminded them they were born again. The power of the Holy Spirit gives believers the ability to be obedient to the Lord’s leading. 1 John 4:2, “This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God.” Overcoming the tendency toward sin they could live in but not of the world. Victory is found through faith in Jesus Christ. Victory begins at salvation. 1 John 2:22, “whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.” Victory over sin is a daily step-by-step walk of faith.

Some days I feel like I don’t have the right shoes to remain on the right path. Tying a pair of Nike’s this afternoon, I pounded out a few miles and felt great. I remember over thirty years ago a fellow BSFer said, “If you are not moving forward you are slipping back.” Armed with God’s Word each day, reminds me I’ve got my Nike’s laced tight. I admit, sometimes I’m lazy. My step-by-step walk of faith helps keep sin at bay.

Where is the Lord leading today?

Walking with Jesus daily,

S
