Genesis 17:6-7 NIV2011

I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you. I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.

God appeared to Abraham offering him a renewed and expanded covenant. God’s caveat: obedience through faith in God alone. Abraham’s descendants would be numerous. Galatians 3:29, “If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed; and heirs according to the promise.” God’s covenant was forever. Deuteronomy 7:13, “He will love you and bless you and increase your numbers.” The Lord would remain with His people. Revelation 21:7, “Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.” God promises to protect and provide for His people.

Loosing sight of who God is in my life never ends well for me. Like Abraham, there have been times in my life when I thought I knew what was the best way to handle a situation. Thankfully I’ve seen the error of my ways before I had more than I “bargained for.” Spending time in God’s Word each day brings Him clearly into focus. Knowing how He has faithfully stood with His people strengthens my faith. I experience His promised protection and provisions daily.

Why does He promise protection and provision?
