Hebrews 12:1-2a NIV 2011
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.
Hebrews’ author named the “heroes” from the Old Testament that were “the great cloud of witnesses” in chapter 11. Those examples exhibited lives lived by faith, the Lord’s faithfulness and finishing the race set before them. Paul wanted to finish the race. Acts 20:24, “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.” Jesus Christ perfects the faith of those who finish His race.
God shows me over and over again how to finish the race. Even entering the next decade, He’s showing me another race to run. By faith Abraham did what the Lord called him to do. That has been what I do daily because I was nothing before I decided to follow Jesus. And when I once again fixed my eyes on Jesus, He opened a path I never believed was possible: to serve at BSF and continue writing. Serving Him perfects my faith, helping me finish His race.
How is God challenging you to finish His race by faith?
