Luke 9:12-13a NIV 2011
Late in the afternoon the Twelve came to him and said, “Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages and countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here.”
He replied, “You give them something to eat.”
Jesus in Luke 9:1b gave the disciples “power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases.” Luke 9:2, “and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.” The disciples reported fruitful sharing of the Good News. They all withdrew but crowds followed them. The disciples wanted time alone with Jesus. Jesus wanted their trust and faith in Him to grow. They looked at the multitude rather than the possibility the food available multiplying. Jesus broke the bread and blessed it. The bread was then delivered to the people. The Lord multiplies the resources of His people.
I was a BSF group leader when I began my second year with Alaska Airlines. I was asked to join a special project at our Corporate Headquarters for three months Monday through Friday. I was concerned because that would keep me from my two-morning commitment to BSF. My BSF Teaching Leader suggested requesting a late arrival on just those days. They agreed because they were confident I could finish in a timely fashion. The Lord multiplied my time and talents to complete each task.
