Matthew 24:42, Mark 13:33, Luke 12:40 NIV 2011
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.”
“Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.”
“You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”
The first three Gospels each offered Jesus’ counsel regarding His triumphal future return. Paul’s letter to the church in Thessalonica contains similar warnings. 1 Thessalonians 5:6, “So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.” Those that follow Jesus must remain faithful until Jesus returns. Matthew 25:13, “Therefore, keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.” God’s people must be vigilant and prepared. Luke 21:36, “Be always on the watch.” Lives lived prepared for Jesus’ return yield sacrificial servants.
It wasn’t until the early 1980’s that I began to understand the end times. Between studying God’s Word in depth and various books I read, it was clear Christ will return. Most generations expect His return in their lifetime. I do know that we will not know the time but we need to be ready. That means I need to continue to share the Good News of Jesus Christ daily. I’ve one eye on God’s Word and the other watching. Serving Him joyfully I’m prepared for His triumphal return.
Why is preparation for Jesus’ return important?
Prepared and ready,
