Psalm 91:13-14 NIV 2011

You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him: I will protect him for he acknowledges my name.”

The psalter stated the final two threats that could befall God’s people. The first two were found in verses five and six; enemies and illness. These were threats from God’s fearful creatures. Daniel faced lions. Daniel 6:22, “My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouth of the lions. They did not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight.” Jesus sent seventy-two out to share the Good News with His authority. Luke 10:19, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.” God protects those that acknowledge Him as Lord.

I’m not too worried about coming into contact with a lion or a poisonous serpent. But I do know there is an Enemy who is daily out to steal my joy. Our pastor preached today on spiritual warfare from Ephesians 6:12. I need to be awake and resist what is going on around me. Remaining faithfully in God’s Word every day, I’m armed with His Truth. Isaiah 41:10a, “So do not fear, for I am with you.” God is for me. God protects me because I am His.

How do our lives reflect God’s protection?

Victors not victims,
