Isaiah 59:17, John 2:17, Romans 12:11 NIV 2011
He put righteousness as his breastplate, and the helmet of salvation on his head; he put on the garments of vengeance and wrapped himself in zeal as in a cloak.
His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”
Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
Isaiah painted the picture of a redeemer, Jesus Christ, the same armor Paul pictured in Ephesians 6:14 describing the full armor of God. David added the same zeal John quoted in Psalm 69:9. The disciples remembered Christ’s zeal for God’s true worship which antagonized his persecutors. Zeal found in Romans was an action verb much the same as vitality. Vitality for Christ is God’s desire for Believers.
The opposite of zeal/vitality is lethargy, apathy or boredom. There was a time when I was all of those and maybe more. They were a large part of my life during college when I knew everything. Thankfully He did not leave me there but wooed me back to an amazing vitality for Him. It was at that time I walked back into fellowship with Him and that is where I will forever stay by remaining faithful. My salvation was never in question but I was not growing in the Lord. My vitality/zeal for Christ grows daily as I write.
How does God see our vitality barometer?
Vitality for Christ, who saved us,
