Habakkuk 2:12-14 NIV 2011
“Woe to him who builds a city with bloodshed and establishes a town by injustice! Has not the Lord Almighty determined that the people’s labor is only fuel for the fire, that the nations exhaust themselves for nothing? For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”
The Lord answers Habakkuk’s complaint from chapter one. A prophet of God before the Babylonian invasion, Habakkuk was perplexed by Judah’s ungodly attitude. His concern regarding God’s inaction troubled him and others in Judah. God said He would do something, 2:3b, “Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.” Though Babylon will conquer them, Babylon fades away. Jeremiah 51:58, “This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Babylon’s thick wall will be leveled…’” Habakkuk quotes Isaiah 11:9b, Babylon does not remain. The earth is filled with the knowledge of God’s glory.
I’ve been asked on several occasions, “How do you know God really exists?” After smiling I ask, “How do you know He does not?” That usually opens a window of opportunity to describe and expand upon all the things He has created. Sometimes they begin to fidget and squirm but on occasion some will listen. My handy Bible app offers me Scripture to support the information shared. Daily creation and Scripture team with proof of God’s glory.
How is God calling us to reveal His glory today?
