Exodus 12:13-14 NIV 2011
“The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.
“This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord—a lasting ordinance.”
Exodus 12:1, “The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt…” God spoke to them about the exodus from Egypt. The God of order gave them directions: place the blood of a lamb over their doorpost. God mercifully passed over the homes with the lamb’s blood. God’s deliverance was to be commemorated, 12:24, “Obey these instructions as a lasting ordinance for your descendants.” God saved His sinful people to reflect God and believe in Him. The blood of Christ, the Passover Lamb covers the sins of all who trust Him.
Passover was celebrated in Jerusalem while I was there in April 1997. It was the same time as Easter and I was able to celebrate a Seder meal with other Christians in the Old City. Sitting inside the Old City I felt connected to all that had happened there. Jesus’ triumphal entry into the city, the Last Supper, His arrest and trial before He carried His cross to Calvary all took place not far from me. Trusting Him, His blood covers my sins daily.
