Isaiah 35:9-10 NIV 2011
No lion will be there, nor any ravenous beast; they will not be found there. But only the redeemed will walk there, and those the Lord has rescued will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.
During Biblical times wild animals made travel dangerous. Peril could be just around the next corner. Samson faced a lion cub in Judges 14:5. God would deliver His people from peril. Isaiah 1:27, “Zion will be delivered with justice, her penitent ones with righteousness.” God would pursue His people, Psalm 23:6, “Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life…” God’s people would sing joyfully when redeemed. Isaiah 65:23, “for they will be a people blessed by the Lord, they and their descendants with them.” Redemption is God’s work and leads to joyful song.
My small group at church is studying the book of Ruth. Because it is my favorite book in the Bible, I love plumbing the depths each week. Naomi lost everything by following Elimelek but gained everything by following God. The Israelites lost everything by following their own ways but gained everything by following God. The Disciples lost their lives but gained eternal life through Christ. I received eternal life by believing in Jesus Christ. My joyful song began the day I was redeemed.
How does knowing Jesus daily change lives?
