Habakkuk 2:19-20 NIV 2011
“Woe to him who says to wood, ‘Come to life!’ Or to lifeless stone, ‘Wake up!’ Can it give guidance? It is covered with gold and silver; there is no breath in it.”
The Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him.
The book of Habakkuk is another book of the Minor Prophets. God called Habakkuk to speak to the people of Judah. After living under so many ungodly kings the people didn’t know the God of David. As Babylonian subjects they were hard pressed to believe God was anywhere near. Habakkuk’s faithfulness to God gave him these words to encourage Judah’s captives. God replied to Habakkuk with five “Woes.” God finally said, “Wake up!” God was in charge. He would act with justice in His perfect timing. Everything/everyone will submit to Him. God calls the righteous to live by faith.
Even though we don’t live with ungodly kings, where ever we live today is much like that of Judah. People are searching for significance rather than the Savior. The quest to garner wealth and fame is what motivates many. Habakkuk offered God’s people His Words; “Wake Up!” One takeaway for me after reading this passage, as one of His faithful, I must look beyond what others say is “significance.” Waking up and submitting to Him daily as I write, keeps my focus on living by faith as His.
How will we live by faith today?
Righteously living focused on Him,
