John 10:3-4 NIV 2011
The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.
Chapter ten of John’s Gospel is the beginning of Jesus’ description of the Good Shepherd. The Old Testament’s concept of a shepherd was a person of great responsibility. The gatekeeper in verse three would have been in charge of a large sheep pen with more than one flock. The sheep knew the voice of the shepherd as he called them by name. John 10:27, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” They followed because they knew his voice. Believers follow The Great Shepherd who knows their name.
“He Knows My Name” is a song I love to sing whenever I hear it. It speaks to me sinceGod is not somehwere. Because He’s right beside me leading the way. He knows our name and never forgets us. He leads us beside still waters when we need it. He is with me even when I think I’m lost. Right now I feel He is ahead fo me, calling me to follow Him. The future is never scary when He’s there. God knows our name and truly is our “Daddy.”
How are we following the One who knows our name?
Thankful He knows our name,
