Romans 13:13-14 NIV 2011
Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.
Negative life styles enumerated here by Paul were pervasive throughout his letters. The Apostle Mark in his Gospel delineates much the same in 7:21-22, “For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder…” Paul gave the faithful in Rome the remedy, being clothed with Christ and the ability to reflect Christ from deep within. Galatians 3:27, “for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” The “Greek word for flesh (sarx) refers to the sinful state of human beings.” All who walk this earth are sinners. Christ is hidden deep within the heart of believers.
The negative life styles of verse thirteen read like a tabloid of today. The depravity of human beings has escalated over the last sixty years. I remember when even married couples acting on TV couldn’t sleep in the same bed. I choose the Hallmark channel for my viewing pleasure because it is the opposite of the immorality that passes for television. From the hallowed halls of congress to Hollywood, sexual immorality and debauchery are rampant. Daily I’ll reflect Christ from my heart.
How do Christians differ from others?
