Philippians 3:8b-9 NIV 2011
I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.
Paul’s life was forever changed on the road to Damascus. Acts 9:3, “As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.” Before Christ, his life was useless. Ephesians 2:3, “All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and deserving of wrath.” He had a life eternally changed by Christ. 1 Corinthians 1:30, “It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God.” He merely needed a continuing relationship with Christ. Anything standing in the way of a personal relationship with Christ is garbage.
Can I honestly say my relationship with Jesus is more important than anything else? As a wife, mother and grandmother I have to take a deep breath and think about that. I would really love to say, it is my first thought. Some days I get caught up in the other hats I wear. At the end of the day I know what I need to do because I am a flawed human. Daily I must remember my personal relationship is foremost.
What do we place above Christ?
