Psalm 27:1a, 1 John 4:18 NIV 2011

The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

David knew his security was found in the Lord even when the enemy was nipping at his heals. He was well because the Light of the Lord was with him. Psalm 97:11, “Light shines on the righteous and joy on the upright heart.” The Apostle John knew God. He walked with Jesus and was a part of His ministry. He received and cherished God’s love and was therefore never fearful because he believed in the finished work of Jesus Christ and was a saved sinner. God’s love is genuine and leads to lives lived free of fear.

Mark 5:36, “Overhearing what they said, Jesus told them, ‘Don’t be afraid; just believe.’” It’s what I want to shout when fellow believers say, “I’m afraid.” I refrain but it’s something I’ve said to myself as I say I will pray for someone walking through tough times. If it’s good enough for King David and the Apostle John, it’s good enough for me. I remember as a young girl being fearful of the dark but I overcame that fear walking with Jesus. God loves me setting me free of fear.

What fear holds us back from being bold?

Freed from fear daily,

S
