Judges 2:18 NIV 2011
Whenever the Lord raised up a judge for them, he was with the judge and saved them out of the hands of their enemies as long as the judge lived, for the Lord relented because of their groaning under those who oppressed and afflicted them.
Judges 2:10, “After the whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel.” Joshua was gone and the Israelites had not one to lead them. They turned to the gods that surrounded them. 2:16, “Then the Lord raised up judges who saved them.” Each time the Lord raised up a deliverer, the Lord was with them and there was peace. This cycle of peace, death of a judge, doing evil in the eyes of the Lord and a cry for God’s help continued. The one constant was God remained ever present. God is Israel’s Guard.
There was a time in my late teens and early twenties when I chose to walk away from the Lord. Angry about my circumstances, I blamed God for not giving me what I wanted. So like the Israelites, I placed myself on the throne and did my own thing. After doing evil in the eyes of the Lord, I cried out to Him. Upon reflection, God was present even during those times. God daily is my Guard.
When have you seen God is your Guard?
Guarded by God’s amazing grace,
