Genesis 6:5, Jeremiah 17:9, Matthew 15:18 NIV 2011
The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.
The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure.
But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them.
Sin is part of lives lived walking the earth yesterday and today. Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord and saved a remnant while the floodwaters covered the earth. God called Jeremiah with these words, Jeremiah 1:16, “I will pronounce my judgments on my people because of their wickedness in forsaking me.” Jesus’ words to the disciples revealed sin came from their heart. Luke 6:45b, “and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart.” Sinners need the Savior because sin comes from the heart.
I read a Facebook post on how a small sinful thought quickly took root in someone’s heart. Before they knew it they were angry and upset over what was really nothing. I could only smile remembering what has happened in the past when I drive. With His help, I’m not the person I used to be but still not the person He wants me to be. I’m a sinner in need of the Savior to cleanse my heart daily.
What sin lurks deep within our heart?
