John 10:11, 14-15 NIV 2011
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”
“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me—just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.”
Jesus’ words recorded by John, build on Old Testament statements that God was called the “Shepherd Of Israel.” Psalm 23:1, “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.” God is both strong and gentle. Ezekiel prophesied the One that would shepherd God’s people. Ezekiel 34:23, “I will place over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he will tend them; he will tend them and be their shepherd.” God knew Jesus and Jesus knew those who were His sheep. Jesus was willing to lay down His life for all sinners that believed in Him. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, is the Royal Caretaker of God’s people.
When I was a young girl, I wondered who took care of my mom. She was a good mom and did quite a bit to manage the lives of six children and remain my dad’s sweetheart. I didn’t see her waiver nor miss a beat as we all piled into the car on Sunday mornings freshly pressed and ready for church. As an adult, I discovered there was someone that took care of her daily. Jesus is our Royal Caretaker.
How is Jesus caring for you today?
