2 Corinthians 2:14-15 NIV 2011
But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.
Paul had some concerns for the church at Corinth. He thanked God for their victory as they shared their faith with others. 1 Corinthians 16:57, “But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” The aroma of Christ originates in the lives of saved sinners. 1 Corinthians 1:18, “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” Christ was the final fragrant offering and sacrifice given to save sinners.
I used to have a favorite hand-lotion I used. I’d put it on every early morning before leaving for my job at the airport. As I handled tickets, baggage tags and boarding envelopes, that fragrance was on everything I touched. As a believer I need to do the same as a person. Paul reminded the Corinthians they were the aroma of Christ to the world where they lived. That is what I am to be daily to saved and unsaved sinners. Christ’s sacrifice was His fragrant offering for my sins.
Who is perishing and needing salvation through Jesus Christ?
