Psalm 51:7-9 NIV 2011
Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity.
David was a man after God’s heart. Acts 13:22, “After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’” David humbly asked for God’s forgiveness and cleansing after Nathan confronted him about his sinful behavior with Bathsheba. He prayed for God to forgive and wash away his sins. He longed for the joy felt walking close with Him. He prayed for God to blot out his sin. Psalm 52:1, “…blot out my transgressions.” God forgives and forgets confessed sins.
It has never ceased to amaze me how God uses sinful people for His good purposes. He used both David and Paul by blotting out their transgressions. Only through God’s amazing grace do these things happen. It humbles me to know I need only to confess my sins and they are forgiven. Walking with him daily helps keep my sinful nature in view. And yet as a sinner He continues to use me as I write these words. I praise God for forgiving and forgetting my confessed sins.
What sins need to be confessed today?
Forgiven and forever His,
