Ephesians 2:6-8a NIV 2011
And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith…
Once alienated and dead in sin God’s people were made alive and united in Christ. Paul began chapter two to the church at Ephesus with this insight. Believers are united with Christ through His death and resurrection. Romans 6:5, “For if we have been united with him in death like this, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like this.” God sent Jesus to atone, pay the price, for the sins of all. Titus 3:4-5a, “But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us…” Faith alone in Christ alone saves sinners.
Of the letters Paul wrote, Ephesians has been a favorite of mine for years. Paul was not concerned with theological error within the church but wanted to remind them of God’s eternal purpose to bring all things under Christ. When I need a refresher course in living for Jesus, I read through it “so that I might know him better.” Praying to know God’s will, I don’t need much else because that’s where it’s centered. Faith in Christ alone saves sinners.
