Acts 17:23-24a NIV2011

“For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you. The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth.”

Paul waited in Athens, full of idlos and pagans, for Silas and Timothy. Speaking with Jews and God-fearing Greeks he was taken to the Areopagus after sharing the Good News of Jesus. They ask about the “new teaching” exactly the way others questioned Jesus. Mark 1:27, “What is this? A new teaching—with authority!” John recorded Jesus speaking in Samaria. John 4:22, “You Samarians worship what you do not know, we worship what we know.” Paul shared God’s eternal plan; sending Jesus as the perfect sacrifice for sin. God exists eternally.

Living in “Sin City” daily reminds me it is a city full of idols. It is easy to skirt the strip but landing or taking off it’s hard to miss.I recall a man relaxing at Starbucks reading the Bible several years ago. I made my favorte statement, “That’s a great book. You probably know how it ends.” He smiled so we chatted. He had just shared a thirty-minute message of God’s Word while waiting outside the DMV. Believers share God exists eternally.

What will we share in 2021?

Thankful God’s eternal,

S
