Ephesians 1:18-19a NIV 2011
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.
Paul, Christ’s servant, imprisoned in Rome wrote to the church in Ephesus. Ephesians 3:1, “For this reason, I Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles.” He gave them just the facts. Salvation and blessings come by God’s grace through faith alone in Christ alone. Ephesians 2:8, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from your selves, it is a gift of God.” Hearts filled with Jesus, believers saw His Light would guide them. The future was unknown but hope remained. God calls and equips His faithful followers with hope.
Sometimes when God calls me to serve Him, darkness descends on me and I loose my way. Doubt begins to enter my mind and that’s when I need to remember to turn on the Light of Christ. Reading Paul’s letters has always helped Christ’s Light grow brighter in my heart. When I think of all that Paul went through and still wrote encouraging letters to his converts, I get back on track. Spending time daily writing flips my light switch “on.” God called and equipped me with hope.
Why does God equip and call us to serve?
Called and equipped,
