2 Timothy 1:13-14 NIV 2011
What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus. Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
Paul finished his instructions with Timothy using sound teaching just as he did Titus. Titus 1:9, “He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refuting all who oppose it.” Correct/sound teaching was a colossal concern in each of Paul’s “Pastoral Letters” not found in any of his others. Paul reiterated what he penned before. 1 Timothy 6:20, “Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care.” Additionally Paul advised Timothy to rely on the indwelling Holy Spirit just as in other letters. The indwelling Holy Spirit guards God’s Word in believers.
“But I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I’ve committed unto him against that day.” Singing this hymn’s refrain reminds me there is someone who gave His life to save me to serve Him. As I serve, His peace that passes understanding is revealed daily in His Word as I write here. The Spirit moves within me convicting me of sin. But I remain close while studying God’s Word. The Holy Spirit guards God’s Word in me until the Lord returns.
How are we guarding God’s Word?
