Deuteronomy 31:7-8a NIV 2011
Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
After forty years of wandering, the children of Israel were poised to enter the land God promised. There was fear and trepidation from many unsure of what was ahead. Some would fall away but a remnant would always remain faithful to the Lord. Joshua was tasked to lead them into and possess the Promised Land. Joshua 1:6, “Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.” The presence of God gives His faithful courage.
It’s easy to be courageous when you’ve assembled all the facts or know where you are going. Standing at the edge of a river I wonder how will I get to the other side? I need to trust the Lord enough to take that first step courageously resting in Him. Asked to fill an unfamiliar position at church, pausing and pursuing His council has always met with the best results. Eyes fixed on Jesus daily He gives me courage.
When does He call us to be courageous?
