2 Chronicles 14:7 NIV 2011
“Let us build up these towns,” he said to Judah, “and put walls around them, with towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours because we have sought the Lord our God; we sought him and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.
Asa became King of Judah after Abijah’s death. 2 Chronicles 14:2, “Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God.” He systematically removed what got in the way of God’s people doing what was right. He then instructed the people to seek the Lord their God. Peace and prosperity for ten years was the result. 2 Chronicles 14:1b, “Asa his son succeeded him as king, and in his days the country was at peace for ten years.” Seeking the Lord daily gives peace to God’s faithful.
Like Asa, I’ve learned that times of peace are not for resting but rather preparation for those times when problems seem to find me. Keeping my self rested and avoiding times of stress are the things I can control. Having a fail proof strategy starts with time spent with the Lord daily. Reading God’s Word arms me for those times when the enemy puts temptation in my path. Memorizing Scripture gives me words to say when Satan places any doubts in my mind. Seeking the Lord has consistently produced peace in my life.
