Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will declare your praise.
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of the lips that openly professes his name.
Dancing, music, public worship, singing, witnessing to unbelievers and speaking directly to unbelievers are all ways to praise God. David praised God because he knew God was worthy of praise. He spoke to God directly and humbly prayed with a contrite heart. Psalm 51:17, “My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart…” The author of Hebrews knew Jesus is The Great High Priest that continually intercedes before God. Through His finished work believers can directly offer praise to the Father daily. Romans 15:11, “And again, ‘Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; let all the peoples extol him.’” God is worthy of every believer’s praise.
Having an attitude of gratitude is something my mother displayed almost every day. Growing up in that environment molded the way I am today. Every day my feet hit the floor, I praise the Lord for another day spent with Him. Just as Saul pursued David, there is nothing that will stand in my way when the going gets slightly rough. And yet sometimes my pity meter runs high and I begin down that road. Worship and praise music is what turns me around. God is worthy of my praise.
