2 Kings 20:2-3 NIV 2011

Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord. “Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

Hezekiah was gravely ill. After speaking with God’s prophet Isaiah, he was told to put his house in order because he was going to die. But Hezekiah knew the Lord and went to Him in prayer asking Him to remember who he was in the beginning. 2 Chronicles 21:20, “This is what Hezekiah did throughout Judah, doing what was good and right and faithful before the Lord his God.” His prayer was not for God’s divine intervention but rather to remember he was the man God called just as He’d called David. God sees beyond the words to the heart of believers who pray.

Like Hezekiah, there are times when I just don’t know how to pray. After my dad’s stroke I didn’t quite know how to pray but asked God to show him mercy. That’s exactly what He did by giving us ten more years. Holding Mandi as she breathed her last breath, I asked for God to welcome her Home. Many friends are living with cancer. In the middle of the night, I pray He will go through their bodies seeking out any rogue cancer cells. God knows my heart and hears my prayers.

Who needs our prayers today?

Hearts turned daily toward Him,

S
