Luke 2:13-14 NIV 2011
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
Luke was a disciple and Gentile physician who also accompanied Paul on missionary journeys. His letter is an historical account of Jesus. Luke 1:3-4, “an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.” After revealing the birth of Jesus, he included the angel’s appearance to the shepherds announcing the birth of “a Savior…he is Messiah, the Lord.” Even those who accompanied the angel rejoiced and praised God for sending Jesus. God’s favor/grace comes through Jesus Christ. God’s Son Jesus Christ made salvation available to all people who believe.
Sitting in a church pew during Advent makes me want to make a joyful noise to the Lord. It has been this way since my very first Christmas Carol. “Away in the Manger.” The next was “Angels We Have Heard On High” which was a transformational carol for me. I could hit each of the notes of “Glo, o, o, o, o, o (repeat two more times)…ri ah” with the adults that sang. Each and every time I sing that song I know I am actually heralding the Son of God. Jesus Christ made salvation available to all people everywhere.
How will we herald Jesus daily?
Saved by Jesus Christ,
