Isaiah 44:22, Acts 3:19 NIV 2011
“I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.”
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.
Isaiah quotes the Lord’s Words of comfort to the Israelites. Just as the Lord took away David’s sin when he confessed, so God would do the same for Israel. 2 Samuel 12:13b, “Nathan replied, ‘The Lord has taken away your sin.’” Israel had suffered and would be forgiven and restored. All they needed to do was return to Him. Zechariah 1:3, “This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Return to me.’” Luke used similar words reminding the Israelites to repent and turn to Him. Why? So fellowship with God may be restored. God sweeps away the sins of His redeemed, refreshing and restoring them.
As one of the King’s Kids, I was redeemed long ago. How do I respond to His revelations of the sin in my life? Some days it’s pretty obvious how to turn from a particular sin. Others I find myself down the rabbit hole thinking, wow, did I really do that. In Christ, I am freed from the grip and penalty of sin. The Spirit guides my choices. The Lord sweeps away my sins and daily while refreshing and restoring me.
How are we living differently today than ten years ago?
