1 Samuel 18:1, 3, 19:1b-2a NIV 2011
After David had finished talking with Saul, Jonathan became one in spirit with Dave, and he loved him as himself. And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself.
But Jonathan had taken a great liking to David and warned him…
David needed a friend and found one in Saul’s son, Jonathan. He would have been present during David’s talk with Saul. There’s was a friendship that lasted until Jonathan’s death. 2 Samuel 1:26, “I grieve for you, Jonathan my brother; you were very dear to me. Your love for me was wonderful, more wonderful than that of women.” Though Jonathan was King Saul’s son, Jonathan remained resolute in his resolve. Their covenant was made before the Lord. 1 Samuel 23:18, “The two of them made a covenant before the Lord.” Friendships founded upon the Father yield eternal results.
Joining another BSF Leaders Meeting this morning among sisters-in-Christ I experienced the same feelings I’ve had each time I visit. Bound together by our faith in Christ, we walk through life using the same prism. The gift of Christian friendship comes from God. Mine have all been there at crucial times from my friend that showed up as my husband was having surgery to those that surrounded us after Mandi’s death and many other times. True friends like Jonathan surround me daily and we’re reaping eternal results.
How do those true friendships impact our lives?
