1 John 4:7b-9 NIV 2011

Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.

John reiterates words used in his Gospel, John 1:13, “children born not of natural descent…but born of God.” John also restates what he wrote in 1 John 2:4, “Whoever says, ‘I know him,’ but does not do what he commands is a liar and the truth is not in that person.” God’s love is visible in Jesus Christ, His one and only Son. John 1:18a, “No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God…” John’s letter states God is spirit, light, righteous, holy, powerful, faithful and true. God is love.

Walking through the Reagan Library and Museum this afternoon, there was more information than we could absorb in one day. The first room had exhibits of his early years. I was drawn to a case containing a well-loved KJV Bible belonging to Nelle Wilson Reagan, the president’s mother. It was opened to 1 John 4 with verse 8 in brackets. Pulling out my phone, I looked it up and thought it was the perfect part of Scripture for today’s daily. His mother knew God is love by her brackets.

How do believers show their love?

Thankful for God’s love,
