Mark 4:21, 25 NIV 2011
He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand?
“Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”
Mark sandwiched in between Jesus’ parables the revelation about His identity. Bringing a lamp into a room brings the darkness to light. Jesus was the Light as He walked the earth and is the Light of the world today. John 8:12, “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’” During His advent, those who chose to follow Him would receive greater understanding in time yet to come. The rest will gain nothing. Living for Jesus is a never-ending process studying God’s Word.
My post-graduate studies far surpass what’s needed for a Master’s Degree. But that was never my goal. Studying God’s Word has brought me closer to Him than any degree ever would. As followers of Jesus we should never stop learning. I remember the second time we studied Israel and the Minor Prophets I though of just pulling out my old lessons. I never did because I knew God had something new to teach me. Living daily for Jesus, I’ll never stop studying God’s Word.
