Exodus 32:1 NIV 2011
When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.”
The Israelites that followed Moses from Egypt couldn’t wait longer than forty days for his return. Exodus 24:18, “Then Moses entered the cloud as he went up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and nights.” Moses spent time with the Lord, received the Ten Commandments and God’s instructions for remaining faithful. Their rebellious spirits within returned. They wanted gods to bolster and buttress their faith. Leaderless, panic started and was followed by irrational decision-making. The people forgot they’d place their faith in the Lord God. Faith firmly founded in the Father flourishes.
I recall what happened when I needed to leave my fifth-grade class one afternoon because I’d forgotten the lesson copies I’d made during lunch. After seven minutes, I returned and the class was in chaos. It was another opportunity to teach them a life lesson; remember who you are in all circumstances. We talked about expectations and my disappointment. They were to write and leave on my desk at the end of the day “who is the person you forgot to be.” Never forgetting my faith is in God.
How do you find God faithful daily?
We’re faithfully His,
