Hebrews 11:11-12 NIV 2011
And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise. And so from this one man, and he was as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.
Hebrews was written to the Jewish converts as a reminder of the covenant God made with His people. This chapter focuses on those that lived by faith with only one woman, Sarah, mentioned. She was old. Genesis 18:11, “Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing.” Abraham was even older. Genesis 21:5, “Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.” God’s Word consistently exhibits encouragement for His faithful followers to persevere as examples to others.
I turn to Hebrews 11-12:3 when my faith waivers. The amazing men and women of the Old Testament living by faith are there. They had a choice just as I have to persevere through all adversity. When I reflect on all the ways I’ve seen His faithfulness in my life, it humbles and grounds me. Knowing I deserve nothing but have been blessed beyond all measure, daily puts me on my knees with thanksgiving. God’s Word is all I desire for the encouragement needed to persevere as His faithful follower.
What encourages us to persevere through everything?
