Daniel 9:7a, 8-9 NIV 2011
“Lord, you are righteous, but this day we are covered with shame. We and our kings, our princes and our ancestors are covered with shame, Lord, because we have sinned against you. The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him.
God is righteous. Ezra 9:15, “Lord, the God of Israel, you are righteous!” Isaiah 42:6, “I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness.” However His people were sinful and sin separated them from God. Ezra 9:7, “From the days of our ancestors until now, our guilt has been great.” Psalm 44:15, “I live in disgrace all the day long, and my face is covered with shame.” God is merciful and forgiving. Exodus 34:6, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in faithfulness.” Righteous God restores shameful sinners who repent and return to Him.
The Old Testament is filled with men and women who are just like we are in the twenty-first century. They lived on the other side of the cross but thankfully, we live on this side of the cross. He created us to have a personal relationship with him. Jesus was sent to save sinners and restore that relationship. I’ve been known to be rebel at times just like the Israelites but not for long. Righteous God reveals my sins and restores me when I repent and return to Him.
What shameful behavior is God revealing today?
