Genesis 45:4b-5 NIV 2011

When they had done so, he said, “I am your brother, Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt! And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.”

Joseph’s brothers sold him to merchants. Genesis 37:28, “So when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cisterna and sold him…who took him to Egypt.” Genesis 37-50 chronicles the life of Joseph. Years after they sold him, his brothers went to Egypt for food because of famine in their homeland. Joseph was pharaoh’s right-hand. His brothers never forgot what they did to him. Joseph knew God saved him to save his family. Having been the recipient of God’s great grace, He forgave his brothers. God forgives sinners through the blood of Christ.

Like Joseph, when someone has wronged me, I need to face what happened. Through prayer and time spent with the Father the next phase begins. I’m free to figure it out and move toward forgiving that person. By forgiving them I’ve literally canceled their debt. This is when healing begins and I’m able to let whatever happened be finished. From there I can move forward. Digging deep God reveals how He’s used this for His good purposes in my life. Though I’m still a sinner, I’m forgiven daily.

How difficult is it to forgive others?

Forgiven for our sins,
