Colossians 2:6-7, 9-11 NIV 2011
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thanksgiving.
For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness.
Learning the church at Colossae was the target of heresy, Paul wrote his letter to reinforce the authority of Christ alone. Colossians 1:2, “To God’s holy people in Colossae, the faithful brothers and sisters in Christ…” They knew the truth brought to them by Epaphras, a coworker of Paul. Ephesians 3:17, “so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.” Christ was all they needed. John 1:16, “Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.” Believers once alienated and dead in sin are made alive and united in Christ.
The 1980’s had a catchy commercial phrase for decafe coffee, “Fill it to the rim, with BRIM.” I changed it to, “Fill me to the rim, with HIM!” Studying God’s Word daily, gives me the desire to know more. Each month we have a Bible verse to memorize at church. I’m so close to having this months memorized, 1 John 1:8-9. When I’m filled with God’s Word, there is no room for lies. Empty and dead before Christ, I’m now alive.
How does Christ fill our lives?
Alive in Christ,
