2 Timothy 4:17-18a NIV 2011
But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack.
Paul’s second letter to Timothy was written during his second imprisonment in a cold dungeon with chains. 2 Timothy 2:9, “for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained.” And yet Paul continued to encourage Timothy to share the Truth. Paul knew the Lord was with him and would strengthen him. Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through him who gives me strength.” The Lord rescues the faithful. Psalm 121:7, “The Lord will keep you from harm.” The Lord strengthens and rescues those who trust in Him.
God uses those whom He chooses. Paul, a Jew steeped in the law persecuted Christians but used mightily by God. David, a young man of faith who even though chosen by God, chose sin over service, repented and was still used by God. The Lord looks beyond what the world sees to the heart of those he calls. Daily, I’m thankful we have God’s Word to see these imperfect men and women He used for His good purposes. I rest in their examples because He strengthens and rescued me.
How has God strengthened and rescued you?
Faithfully trusting Him,
