Isaiah 40:30-31 NIV 2011
Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah’s double dose of comfort in verse one guided God’s people to find strength and comfort in the Lord. Isaiah 40:29, “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the week.” David knew God was the source of his strength. Psalm 68:35, “You, God, are awesome in your sanctuary, the God of Israel gives power and strength to his people” Paul wrote to the Corinthians to look toward God. 1 Corinthians 4:18, “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.” Comfort and strength are found in God.
After Adam and Eve were banished from Eden life became hard. When God’s people loose sight of Him our lives begin to founder. Throughout the Bible as well as today, there are times when we stray from God’s path by making an ill-fated choice. My BSF Teaching Leader says after we’ve made that kind of choice, “It’s never too late to make the next right choice.” Like Paul, I choose to keep my eyes fixed on Him rather than what is going on around me. I find strength and comfort in God alone.
