Hosea 4:1-2 NIV 2011
Hear the word of the Lord, you Israelites, because the Lord has a charge to bring against you who live in the land: “There is no faithfulness, no love, no acknowledgment of God in the land. There is only cursing, lying and murder, stealing and adultery; they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.”
Hosea was God’s prophet to Israel. In today’s vernacular, they were a “hot mess.” Like Jeremiah God sent Hosea to deliver His passed due notice regarding their unfaithful ways and ungodly behavior. Jeremiah 2:9, “Therefore I bring charges against you again.” Being unfaithful broke God’s covenant. Joshua 24:14, “Now, fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness.” They devolved into sinful lifestyles that were not God honoring. Hosea 5:2, “The rebels are knee-deep in slaughter. I will discipline all of them.” God’s people are called to be kind and faithful.
The more I read the Old Testament, the more I see where we are in the world today. We are only as strong as the next generation. Are we teaching them what has happened in the past? Are we kind to those we meet on the street? Have we taken the time to study God’s Word daily and live out His teachings? We can make a significant impact on the next generation by showing them God’s way emphasizing things of lasting value. I’ll begin being a kinder and faithful follower.
Why does God call us to change?
Following Jesus faithfully,
