1 Timothy 4:15-16 NIV 2011
Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
Paul left Timothy to care for the church at Ephesus as he traveled on to Macedonia. His letter was to encourage him in his ministry. Timothy needed to steadfastly refute false teachings and continue to guide the church as it grew. If Paul were a Scottish captain of Christ’s ship he would tell Timothy, “put your back into it, laddie!” Leading by example was Paul’s model for Timothy. Timothy became the model for Ephesian believers to persevere using God’s Word. All are saved through faith in Christ alone. Timothy was called to faithfully serve the Lord in Ephesus. Called Christians live lives for the cause of Christ.
Being a transparent Christian is not an easy way to live. Letting others see you, warts and all, can be daunting. Daily admitting I’m a sinner saved by Christ has made being transparent easier for me. Not having all the answers is OK, even at my age. I believe a closer walk with Jesus is what He wants. He calls and we answer, “Yes!” That’s how we become a Timothy in Seattle, New Albany or Las Vegas. Being diligent is willingly serving Him wherever we are.
How are we pointing others to the Lord?
