Exodus 12:12b-13 NIV 2011
“and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.”
God spoke to Aaron and Moses. He gave them specific instructions regarding His provision to escape His final judgment on Egypt, the plague on the firstborn. God’s final plague would bring about their release from Pharaoh. Moses knew God. Exodus 6:2, “God had said to Moses, ‘I am the Lord.’” The blood would be a sign to the Lord. He was separating the Hebrews from the Egyptians. Exodus 8:23, “I will make a distinction between my people and your people. The sign will occur tomorrow.” Exodus 12:23, “he will see the blood…and will pass over that doorway…” God is the Passover Lamb.
God’s compassion is seen over and over throughout His Word. He shows compassion to me each day. Yes, I’m a sinner. After confessing my sins and asking for forgiveness, I’m cleansed and forgiven. God blesses us with His grace even though we do not deserve it. That is unmerited favor. I receive His mercy daily when He does not punish me for my sinful behavior. We stand on the same level ground at the foot of the cross. I’m thankful He’s my Passover Lamb.
Where have you seen God’s mercy today?
