Romans 16:1-2 NLT
I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a deacon in the church in Cenchrea. Welcome her in the Lord as one who is worthy of honor manning God’s people. Help her in whatever she needs, for she has been helpful to many and especially to me.
Paul knew Phoebe’s success depended on the church welcoming and accepting other believers that came to share the Good News. Philippians 2:29, “So then, welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor people like him.” He was sending a letter of recommendation on her behalf. She was a sister-in-Christ whom God had called to serve the Lord in Cenchrea, near Corinth. 1 Corinthians 16:18a, “For they refreshed my spirit and yours.” Paul encouraged them to offer her assistance to complete her mission. The Lord calls His people to encourage one another.
It has been an absolute pleasure to be a Shepherd Leader in BSF this year. During our leaders meetings I’ve been able to gather a wealth of information on how to encourage and pray for every one in the virtual circle. Stopping by the bakery in our grocery this morning, maintaining social distance, I was able to chat with and encourage the woman that’s made me special donuts on Sundays after church. I think of my mother who modeled that behavior. Each of us is daily called to encourage those around us.
Who needs to hear our encouraging words today?
Called by Him,
