1 Samuel 3:9b-10, 20 NIV 2011
So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
The Lord came and stood there, calling as the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!”
Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”
And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba recognized that Samuel was attested as a prophet of the Lord.
Judges 21:25, “In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.” Israel did not know Moses’ words spoken at the Jordan River. Deuteronomy 12:8, “You are not to do as we do here today…” God called Samuel to be His prophet. When the people asked for a king Samuel was displeased. He knew God was their King. Though Samuel offered warnings, they wanted to be like the kingdoms surrounding them. 1 Samuel 8:22, “The Lord answered, ‘Listen to them and give them a king.’” God used Samuel as His prophet. God is our Trusted Prophet.
My first time through this portion of God’s Word, I kept shaking my head saying, “What were they thinking?” And then I realized we are exactly the same. We want to be like everyone else and not look different. When something isn’t going quite right, I used to go to someone I thought would have the answers. Daily as my faith walk has grown, I know the only One with the answer is God. Because He knows the future, God is my Trusted Prophet.
What warning is God giving today?
Our Trusted Prophet brings peace,
