2 Chronicles 14:11 NIV 2011
Then Asa called on the Lord his God and said, “Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us O lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. Lord, you are our God, do not let mere mortals prevail against you.”
King Asa was a good king of Judah. He succeeded Solomon’s son and grandson, Rehoboam and Abijah who didn’t seek God. 2 Chronicles 14:2, “Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God.” He removed the high places and turned the people back to God. 2 Chronicles 14:7b, “The land is still ours, because we have sought the Lord our God…” He ceased seeking God and died. Relying on the Lord strengthens God’s people to endure.
If you’re ever in need of some great reading, 2 Chronicles is the best place to see the good, the bad and the ugly kings of Israel and Judah. There were eight good kings of Judah who relied on the Lord. Zero in Israel. Quite a contrast all coming from David. As one of six children, we were all different each choosing different paths. But we were all raised by the same parents that took us to church every Sunday. I learned relying on the Lord daily strengthens me to endure.
How will we point those around us to the Lord?
Strengthened by God,
