1Thessalonians 5:16-18, 23 NIV 2011
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Paul finished his first letter to the church in Thessalonica with these final instructions. Philippians 4:4, “Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again: Rejoice!” Paul wrote in both letters to rejoice in all circumstances. He challenged the faithful to pray and give thanks as well regardless of what happened because that was God’s desire for His people. He ended by offering a prayer as he did other letters using God’s attributes and challenging the faithful to remain steadfast in Him. Those who are in Christ Jesus will rejoice, pray and give thanks daily.
Sitting at a resort in Boracay Philippines this morning, I’m amazed and thankful as I reflect on all the ways I’ve seen the Lord’s hand since we departed home Thursday morning. My prayer has been for us to experience great times of fellowship with our Philippine family. That has been a daily occurrence. The Lord has provided the perfect weather each day of our trip. It’s not a challenge to rejoice in all things during this trip. In Christ I rejoice, pray and am thankful every single day.
How will I live for Him today?
Faithfully following Him forever,
