John 5:45-47 NIV 2011
“But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set. If you believed Moses you would believe me, for he wrote about me. But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?”
Jesus gave His testimony to those gathered. He used Moses as His example. One commentator wrote, “The revelation God gave Moses is inseparable from the revelation God was giving through Jesus.” They knew the Torah including Deuteronomy 18:15, “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him.” Luke 16:31, “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’” The Jews were given a choice, to believe Jesus or not.
How often do I dig my heals in and say it’s my way or the highway? Raising two girls there were times when what they proposed was nixed immediately. Raising teenage girls is not for the meek or weak. We stood firm together as we navigated when and how big to let them expand their box. Our hearts were open daily to new ideas each step along our journey together. The Jews hearts were not open to Jesus but mine was.
