Ephesian 1:18-19a NIV 2011
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people and his incomparably great power for us who believe.
Many of the New Testament letters contain the word hope. 1 Timothy 1:1, “Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope.” Paul again wrote of hope to the Colossians. Colossians 1:27, “To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Christ is the hope of Israel. Acts 28:20b, “It is because of the hope of Israel that I am bound with this chain.” Jesus Christ is our absolute, certain and unshakeable hope.
What the world needs now is not love sweet love from the song made popular by Jackie Deshannon in 1965. During this uncharted time in our history, what we really need is hope. For those of us who live with hope, it’s at this time we need to shine that hope to a lost and dying world. Paul asked the Ephesians to know the hope that Jesus called us to cling to daily and share the riches of his glorious inheritance. Jesus Christ is my absolute, certain and unshakeable hope.
How will we shine Jesus’ hope in our community?
